PUTTING ‘BRITAIN FIRST': MUSLIMS TO CYCLE FROM GLASGOW TO LONDON FOR CHARITY AND PEACE

25 cyclists from across the country will be gathering in Glasgow this
weekend to take part in a 600-mile bike ride to raise money for charity and to promote peace.

The event, named ‘Ride4Peace’, has been organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (AMC) and will see cyclists tour the British countryside, stopping at 13 Mosques in Glasgow, Newcastle, Hartlepool, Bradford, Huddersfield, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, Feltham, Southfields (London) and Morden (London).

Faith and civic leaders, sports enthusiasts and members of the public will be at Mosques across the country to welcome and cheer the cyclists along.

The Ride4Peace is just one of the several events that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK has organised to celebrate its 100 years of establishment in Britain. The Association is supporting the cyclists in raising £100,000 for two British charities – the British Heart Foundation and Humanity First. This will taken the total raised for British charities by members of the AMC over the past month to close to half a million pounds.

The organisers and participants are not only keen to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Humanity First, but also to highlight the fact that the majority of British Muslims are dedicated to making positive contributions towards British society.

Paul Charge, Community Fundraising Manager for the BHF, said:

“Our heartfelt thanks to the Ahmadiyya Cycling Club members for getting in the saddle to help save lives. I know I can rely on the people to dig deep and sponsor the team so we can raise much-needed funds to fight for every heartbeat”.

Rafiq Hayat, National President of the AMC UK said:

“Our ride for peace will take us through the length of Britain and
reflect our commitment to serving this country and humanity through our devotion to peace, loyalty, charity and tolerance. In pushing themselves to the very limit for charity, the cyclists are showing that the majority of Muslims in the UK cannot be defined by the actions of a minority of extremists.”

The riders can be sponsored, their progress followed, and more details of the ride can be obtained at the event’s official website
